Crops and plants have different nutrient / input requirements.
So, understand what your plant needs first, then prepare your soil appropriately. There are a number of low cost tools to help you here.
Again, we recommend natural ways of enriching soil such as composts. worm juice or similar. Worms are your "forever" fertiliser - just keep feeding them.

If you wish to compare sugar levels (SDI) as well as nutrient density (NDI) , then there is a Nxi model which measures both in one read.

Most people know the difference, but here is how we measure.
NB: the scanner shown below is a modified SCiO, suited to FindGoodFood's needs (2017 - 2019). But they are simply too expensive (US$4250 +) for Consumer or Farmer needs.
Not only is Nx 10% of the price, but will soon offer NDI/BRIX readings for 450 varieties of produce, whereas SCiO only offers this for 13 fruit families, no veggies. Sweet red apples and tart Granny Smiths' rate (poor, average, good or excellent) very differently
