In calibrating our Nx, we have focused on accuracy and integrity to ensure we develop a high correlation of NDI with BRIX measurements.

BRIX has been the most proven, objective measurement of food quality for past 200 years, used by global Health Authorities, Food Standards, Food Scientists, etc.

Optical BRIX meters are calibrated to Zero using pure water at 20 degrees Centigrade to ensure consistency of measurement across the food supply chain and many other uses. 

For most food and produce measurement, the BRIX meter is calibrated between 0 and 32 degrees of refraction. For more dense produce, such as honey, egg yolk, one needs to measure up to 90-100 degrees of refraction, and there are BRIX meters for that..  

Digital BRIX meters are more modern and exact, measuring to 0.1 degrees of refraction.

NDI uses a scale between 0-100, to cover the wide range of produce (450 varieties in ANZ) and other uses of the Nx in measuring density and molecular structures using spectroscopy.

Once we have a high correlation with BRIX, we can produce tables showing the quality (poor, average, good or excellent) of the 450 varieties in the FindGoodFood  website.
