The Future of Food is GMO!

There has been a sudden, dramatic shift in the Australian Govt Policy of keeping us safe.

Up until Dec, 25, GMO (Genetically  Modified Organisms) was illegal, restricted to only 4-5 large scale crops - see below for more info....

But from now, from Jan, 26, GMO'd food is regarded as the Food of the Future!

Find out more below

The first of the new "official food of the Future!"

Additional Information

On 30 Jan, 26, the ABC posted  "  Genetically modified purple tomatoes bound for fruit shops after regulator approval"

On 30 Jan26, this article was also posted, "How biotechnology and genetic engineering are transforming agriculture" posted, showing a change in direction, in policy, etc.

PS: Whilst prototyping Nx in 2023, we discovered how they are using GMO / NBT* to increase the nutrient density (BRIX) levels of fresh produce, to compete with chem-free, GM-free delicious, nutritious produce from 'regen' farmers.

.

American and Australian food scientists* agree with us, the Americans warning us in 2021, and Australian food scientists* confirming that all GMO / NBY was doing was raising sugae levels only. and not the other 50 'essential' nutrients, used by our National Health Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ).

* NBT = New Breeding Technique, a new modification technique, not breaking the Law on GMO.

** independents, not employed by Govt. BigAG, BigChem, etc.

For past 200 years, BRIX has been regarded as the best 'objective' measure of nutrient density or produce quality, used by Food Scientists and Health Authorities around the world, including our NHMRC and FSANZ.

However, with GMO and NBT, with only the sugar levels raised, Wiki had changed it's definition of BRIX from a "measure of all dissolved solids" (i.e. nutrient, vitamins, minerals, etc.) to

a measure of "mainly sugars"   until 31 Jan, 2026. And changed again since. See here for current definition.

A Food Pyramid also turned on it's head!

Until 2026

As of January 2026, a  new "inverted" food pyramid has been introduced, marking a major shift  by placing protein and healthy fats at the base, while relegating grains  to a minor role. This framework emphasizes nutrient-dense foods,  including red meat, eggs, and full-fat dairy, to support satiety and  metabolic health, while strictly limiting ultra-processed foods and  added sugars.

In an introduction to the new guidelines, Kennedy and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said, "we

2026 Major changes : New Food Pyramid and the "Future of Food" in Australia!

Key Features of the 2026 Food Pyramid:

  • Foundation (Base): High-quality proteins (meat, fish, eggs) and healthy fats (olive oil, avocado, nuts) now form the foundation.
  • Vegetables & Fruit: Continue to be a central staple for nutrient intake.
  • Inverted Structure: Contrary to previous models, this approach pushes grains to the smallest, top section.
  • Full-Fat Dairy: Endorsed as part of a healthy diet, reversing decades of low-fat advice.
  • Anti-Processed Stance: The guidelines strongly target and discourage ultra-processed foods, added sugars, and artificial sweeteners.

Context for Australia (2026)
While  the above represents a major, globally-noted shift in dietary thinking  (often associated with US guidelines updates in early 2026), the  official Australian Dietary Guidelines are undergoing a separate,  thorough review by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) with updates anticipated around 2026. Current established Australian advice, according to Eat For Health,  still emphasizes a balanced, five-food-group approach with a focus on  wholegrains. However, discussions around the 2026 guidelines are  increasingly focusing on sustainability, reducing chronic disease  through nutrient-dense, whole foods, and managing the intake of  discretionary items.

Generate excitement

The Banana Biotechnology Program at QUT also has considerable experience with manipulating banana fruit characteristics. This is a result of our research program funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, together with researchers in Uganda, to develop EAHB with enhanced levels of fruit pro-vitamin A. This project commenced in 2005 and has culminated in multi-location field trials of banana lines from two cultivars in Uganda. The outcome of manipulating the carotenoid pathway in banana fruit to upregulate specific genes has resulted in enhanced cultivars for the alleviation of this critical micronutrient deficiency.
