Why Nx Uses Two Measurements/ Indices
What the Indices Mean
Reflects structure-, solidity-, and density-related characteristics of produce.
Reflects sweetness-related, soluble characteristics commonly associated with sugars.
Important to Know
• SCI and NDI are independent measurements.
• Neither index is ‘good’ or ‘bad’ on its own.
• Different foods naturally emphasize different characteristics.
In 2023, we established accuracy, consistency in Nx reads..
... and confirmed a direct correlation of Nx to BRIX meter reads. This was important as BRIX has been the "best objective measure of produce quality" for past 200 years, according to Food Scientists and Health Authorities around the world, including our National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and Food Standards Australia & New Zealand (FSANZ).
Below was our final design specs, from prototypes built since 2023, and had working models by Nov., 2025. Nx has since been enhanced to measure and compare nutrient density and sugar content, using specifical measurement techniques for both (very different).
